Dan Bowyer is currently the Principal of Toronto eSchool. Dan served for 35 years with the Peel District School Board as a History and Visual Arts teacher, eventually becoming a School Administrator in Caledon, Brampton and Mississauga. Dan was the First Vice President of the Ontario History and Social Science Teachers’ Association for over twenty years, is an International Baccalaureate History of the Americas teacher and even managed to find time to coach his schools’ Men’s and Women’s Field Lacrosse teams. A ten year plus Executive Member with the Brampton Excelsior Lacrosse Club, Dan also volunteered at the Ontario Lacrosse Hall of Fame and Museum in St. Catharines, Ontario as a Member of their Accessions Committee and as their Lacrosse Historian. Dan played on and coached the Scarborough College Men’s Lacrosse team while he was a student there in the ‘70s. As well, Dan is the Secretary for the Ontario Numismatic Association and an Executive Member of Sinfonia Toronto.
Currently Dan has taken on additional volunteer responsibilities, becoming a Member of the University of Toronto Scarborough College’s Campus Council, an Executive Member of the Governing Council’s College of Electors and their Nominating Committee for Alumni Governors and an Executive Member of the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education Alumni Association.
Previously Dan was an Executive Member of the UTSC Alumni Association and their Academic Advisory Committee, a Member of the Governing Council’s Academic Board and their Striking Committee and finally a Member of the Governing Council’s Academic Policy and Programs Committee,
This year Dan will receive the University of Toronto’s prestigious Arbor Award. “This award is the highest honour granted by the University to volunteers, and is given for sustained contributions to specific academic units, such as faculties, colleges or institutes, or for broader contributions to the university at large.”
